Not clivesdale, not emma, not even a faking, half-infected paul.Deb first appears alongside Alice, Smoke Club Girl and Danny at a meeting of the Smoke Club. Which might not mean a lot, in the long run, but it does mean one thing which I absolutely do not like: no one lived. We’re not watching events unfold, we’re watching infected corpses sing about something that’s already long since happened The fact that the show opens with a number sang by hive members who technically aren’t infected yet, breaking down the plot of a musical that hasn’t even happened yet, only fits with the narrative that it was a show all along, they were already dead and there was nothing they could do this time to save themselves. And okay, of course you could say “well obviously, it’s the introduction of a fictional musical you’re reading too far into this” but also you could look at this and think, hmm, well, in-world it doesn’t make sense for them to go immediately from singing about a show that hasn’t happened yet to being not-infected (because it really does go right from the singing to the show, there’s no break)Īnd all I’ve been able to think about is that the only explanation is that they were infected the whole time, that the entirety of tgwdlm is some sort of reenactment of it all (don’t look at me like that, I’ve seen those theories that say Black Friday is also just a show put on by the Hive). Tgwdlm begins with a musical number, in which characters we see become infected throughout the show appear already infected (including emma, who we never actually see die). Okay so I’m maybe the biggest supporter of half-infected!paul and faking it paul, but I cannot stop thinking
